Matthew Says: A
I'm guessing very, very few of you have heard of this movie. I myself found this film from Roger Ebert. He wrote a blog about it last year, from a private screaning. When it was released this year, he wrote a review for it, then I saw it. Let me just say this, YOU HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING LIKE THIS BEFORE. It's zaney it's funny, it's colorful, it's an absolute delight to watch.
It has two different story lines, but they are both connected. One, takes place in the modern day San Fransisco with a happily married couple. One day the husband leaves for a business trip in India. She comes after a while, but he is different towards her, so she leaves. He then sends her an email basically telling her their marriage is over.
The other story, and with a different animation style, hilarious narration, and set to the 20s blues music of Anette Henshaw, is about a prince and princess, also married. They are banned to a forest, and one day Ramayana, the princess, is captured by an evil ten-headed man. Rama, the prince, gets her back, but only to strand her in another forest.
Both of these stories are both happening on and off, simultaneously. It is a splendidly made film, and probably the most original film I've ever seen. I doubt a better animated film will come along this year, nope, not even Pixar's Up.
Sincerely,
The Citizen Review
