'Sita Sings the Blues', as you might have guessed, never came out in theaters. It also has never been advertised on tv. That is why most of you have never heard of it before. It hasn't been advertised or released in theaters because it is not a copywrited movie.

It was a choice made by the directer Nina Paley. She wanted everyone to watch it without having to pay money. It doesn't have a production ccompany of movie studio. All the money was donated by people who wanted to see the movie made. Everything was done by Paley. She directed it, she animated, she wrote it, she did it all. But, because of this decision, it cannot be nominated for an Academy Award, because in order to be nominated, the film has to have at least a week-long commercial advertisement. Which is a shame, because it is defianately good enought to be nominated.
